wedding & event DJs · Reddit

A couple four months out still needs somebody to run the dance floor.

Nobody hires a DJ from an ad. They ask the room they were already reading, in four lines, with a date that can’t move and a line in a spreadsheet that still says music and nothing else. Meadowrank reads them, so you don’t have to, scores the ones that are real, and drafts the reply in your voice. You send three. That’s the whole goal for the day.

Free is a full game. $35/mo unlocks your own scans.

Every morning I read the Reddit rooms and keep the real asks from people looking for wedding & event DJs, so you never open a feed and go looking.

Five of them land on your board a day, each one with the reply already drafted in your voice. Send three and the day's marketing is done.

The last 20 we looked at

Twelve came from people with a date and nobody playing it. Eight were DJs talking about gear.

One cell per post, taken from wedding planning rooms, budget rooms, town rooms, and party rooms on the newest pass. A lit cell held an evening with nobody booked to play it.

Pain1A floor that emptied by nine, vows lost to a microphone that cut out, and a first dance started twice.
Buying intent7Asking the room outright who plays receptions nearby, what five hours comes to, and who handles the ceremony.
Discovery3Still adding up a rented sound system, a borrowed laptop, and a cousin who volunteered to run the playlist.
Rival0Done with whoever they booked first. None on this pass; those posts follow a deposit and a week of silence.
Visibility1No date to take, though the couples who do book somebody were reading that thread a month earlier.
Not a signal8Controller threads, the argument about requests, a set posted for comment, and what to charge on a Sunday.

What a booking sounds like before anybody has thought about music

Nobody sets out to hire a wedding DJ. They set out to stop worrying about the part of the evening nobody has claimed yet. The hall is booked, the photographer answered fast, somebody’s aunt is doing flowers, and then a line in a spreadsheet says music and has nothing beside it. So the post is four lines about logistics rather than taste: a date, a room with a capacity, a guess at the hours, and does anyone know somebody good who won’t talk over the whole reception. There’s no genre in it and no must-play list, because none of that has been thought about. What’s underneath it is a date that cannot move and a budget somebody already agreed to.

On the newest pass, most of the twelve left standing came from people asking the room for a name and a figure: who plays receptions nearby, what five hours of it comes to, and whether the same person looks after the ceremony microphone. The rest fall either side of that, some adding up a rented sound system, a borrowed laptop, and a cousin who volunteered, some writing up an evening that emptied out by nine because no one was reading the room. Which of those you open decides what the reply has to carry. The one hunting a name wants an hourly shape and a date held; the one still pricing gear needs to hear how little of the night is actually about music.

A signed venue contract never shows up in the title of a post. Reading the whole 20 is how the twelve people carrying one turn up, and that weeknight bills to nobody at all.

Everything else on the pass is the trade talking to itself: which controller to replace first, the standing argument about taking requests off a phone, a set posted for comment, and somebody asking what a Sunday afternoon should be worth. Weighed at one-to-two, a couple with a signed venue contract and a couple idly wondering about music write to the same length, and they only come apart once every one of the 20 is open.

Where to find wedding DJ clients on Reddit

Four kinds of room hold this, and only one of them has other DJs in it. Wedding planning rooms come first and stay first, because everybody posting in one has a date and is working down a list of things still unbooked. Rooms for people doing it cheaply are next and they are better than they sound: somebody counting every line is exactly who needs to hear what five hours actually involves, and they hire once they understand it. The room for your own town is slower and worth keeping open anyway, since this job means a real load-in at a real address and a name two neighbors recognize beats a cheaper stranger every time. Party and milestone rooms, meaning the graduations, the anniversaries, and the office parties, are the seam most mobile DJs never read, and the bookings there are midweek and repeat. Rooms full of DJs hold no clients, only gear threads. Three other trades are standing in the same thread. The speeches and the vows get recorded off your board by whoever is filming from the back of the room. The order of the evening, and when you are told to drop the volume, belongs to the person holding the run sheet that afternoon. And a fair number of the couples weighing you up are also asking what it would cost to have the whole evening played live instead.

The reply that holds the date answers the two questions nobody typed

Under the ask for a name sit two questions the couple never wrote down. The first is what the hours mean, because they wrote five and are imagining five hours of songs, when what they have actually bought is an afternoon of setup, a ceremony, an hour of nobody dancing on purpose, and a closing stretch where the whole thing either works or doesn’t. The second is what changes the number. Answer both in the thread. Say what the hours cover and where the load-in sits inside them, give the range a night that size runs where you work, and name the two or three things that move it: a second room, a ceremony at a different address, lighting, and whether the room has power anywhere near the corner they want you in. Then tell the ones who genuinely need a speaker and a playlist to go and rent a speaker and a playlist. Sending somebody off to spend less than you charge reads like handing work back. It is the reason your name is the one that gets repeated the next three times anybody in that room asks.

What finding clients on Reddit actually costs you

A DJ with every Saturday sold has no reason to be reading this. You’re here because finding the next date costs a weeknight that was already spoken for, or a weeknight you would gladly buy back. Three replies before you start packing the car is ten minutes, and the ten minutes were never the hard part. Everything else in this job finishes with a room full of people and a story somebody tells afterward, and this finishes with nothing you can look at. Meadowrank puts a number on it instead. A post with a real date behind it waits under a short match-3 board. The cover clears, the card opens on the room it came from, the hours the couple named, and a draft that already sounds like you walking a first-timer through an evening. On a wedding weekend the feed lists the same signals for a little less XP. Points only ever come from replies you actually sent.

Do your three. That’s all the marketing today needs.

Playing it is free, and free here means all of it rather than a slice: the board each morning, the feed beneath it, a streak that forgives one flat week, and five cards dealt off the pool Hazel keeps filled overnight. $35 a month, or $350 taken for the year, swaps that shared pool for a Quarry only you draw on, and from then on the scan follows the towns you can load into and out of in a night, the kind of event you want more of, and the rooms those hosts ask their questions in.

Three steps

How to find wedding DJ clients on Reddit, in three steps

  1. 1

Read one wedding planning room and one room for the towns you cover

Take the busiest wedding planning room and the room for the towns you can reach with a full car, read the newest posts in both, and stop at ten minutes. A post worth opening names a date, a room, or a number of hours, and a post arguing about a song does not. Of the 20 posts drawn from those rooms on the newest pass, twelve came from people with a date already set and nobody booked to play it. Two rooms opened every morning beat nine rooms joined in one evening and muted by the weekend.

  2. 2

Seed the thread with the hours, the range a night runs, and what moves it

Start with what five hours actually covers, because they are picturing five hours of songs and have not thought about the load-in or the stretch where nobody dances yet. Then give the range a night that size runs where you work, and name the two or three things that shift it, a second room, a ceremony somewhere else, lighting, and power in the wrong corner. Finish by telling whoever only needs a speaker to rent a speaker, since hearing that from a DJ is what makes the rest of it land. Three sentences, under a post that was only asking whether anybody knows somebody.

  3. 3

Capture the demand by keeping count

A gig counts when the last case is back in the car, not when you agreed to it, and a reply works the same way: three of them, sent, before the day gets going. Points only ever come from replies you actually sent, so a thread you read while a set exports never reaches the total. Hand the watcher further down an address and Monday brings the week counted along with the three dates worth answering first, which is how a run of couples booking halls in one town reaches you while the Saturdays are still free.

Try the board

One of them is under the cover. Clear it.

This is the game, at its smallest. A real wedding & event DJs signal from Reddit sits under the cover, the same kind the honeycomb counts. Match three on the cover to strip a layer. The Monday email sends three of these; the board shows you one.

Short on time, or not in the mood to play today? The game also has a feed. It lists the same signals with the same drafted replies, for a little less XP. The board is the fun way in, not the only one.

One real wedding & event DJs signal from Reddit is under the cover. Match three on it to strip a layer.

Wedding and event DJs on Reddit: what couples ask first

Won’t I get banned for self-promotion?

Turning up under somebody’s post with a rate card and a mix link would earn it, quickly. The posts worth your morning are people asking the room who to book, and a name offered there is the answer rather than an advertisement. What Meadowrank drafts stays on the evening in front of it and puts you forward only where somebody has gone looking for a DJ.

Is there really enough of this to bother with daily?

A couple most days, then a rush in the weeks after a batch of halls takes deposits for the same season. The newest pass counted 12 across 20 posts. Small, and about what a calendar of weekends can absorb anyway. Keep at it for a month and dozens of people planning something nearby will have watched you explain what five hours covers.

Is this scraping Reddit?

No. Hazel runs the searches somebody with an unbooked date would run, then reads whatever public posts come back. No login is involved in any of it, and she stores nothing a logged-out visitor couldn’t read themselves. The looking is the only part she takes off you.

What do I pay, and for what?

You never pay to play. The free tier is the whole game with no corner of it held back, and five cards are dealt each morning off the shared pool. $35 a month, or $350 taken annually, digs a Quarry nobody else works, pointed at the towns you drive to and the events you want more of, and it lifts how many cards a day you turn over.

How do wedding DJs get clients on Reddit?

By pricing one night in public. The couple who book you have already told a room that the hall is booked and the music isn’t, and the date goes to whoever answered with the hours, a range, and what shifts it. Not one booking in the sample started from a post advertising somebody’s own service. Three answers a day, aimed at rooms where people are planning an evening rather than rooms where DJs compare controllers.

Which subreddits are best for finding wedding DJ clients?

Wedding planning rooms lead, because everyone in one has a date and a list of things still unbooked. Rooms for doing it cheaply convert better than most people expect, since somebody counting every line is exactly who changes their mind once they hear what an evening involves. Your own town room is slow and decisive, because the work means a load-in at a real address. Party and milestone rooms are the underread ones, full of midweek events that come back next year. Rooms of other DJs have nobody in them with a date.

Is Reddit worth the time for finding wedding DJ clients?

Ten minutes a day earns its place, above all for dates that arrive because somebody in the room vouched for you. An hour of scrolling doesn’t, and that is the half nobody says out loud in a gear thread. The newest pass read 20 posts and twelve were people with an evening and nobody playing it. Three replies covers a day that size, and there was no fourth ask hiding behind them. Those minutes are only worth spending when the sorting has already happened elsewhere. Like Hazel already does inside Meadowrank.
